OPPORTUNITY

Designers have a unique ability to develop solutions, promote progress, and empower others through the designs they create. Using a design-thinking approach to social change can create solutions that benefit communities in meaningful ways over time.

Studio 329 collaborated with Design for America on a real-world social impact project called ECHO: Unspoken + Retold, applying iterative methods and gaining practical design experience, using the DFA project guide

The goal of ECHO tackles the societal conflicts present in the Anderson community, by identifying and bridging gaps in individual narratives. The neglect of narrative has left the Anderson community separated resulting in an incomplete view of reality and furthering marginalization.

The central question guiding the initiative: How might we create a space that confronts false narratives through the conversation of genuine narratives? To achieve this, ECHO’s approach was displaying the unspoken and retold stories of Anderson residents in an engaging and interactive way. This social exhibition served as a platform for fostering awareness, education, and understanding among community members, working towards a more cohesive and empathetic community.
